Here in Cardigan we are attempting to build the biggest US based model railroad in Wales. Most people said it was impossible, but with your help we can achieve our aim.
The layout stretches 60 feet in length with over 400 feet of mainline, operated with DCC sound-equipped locomotives for realistic, hands-on operation. From freight drags across the countryside to yard switching jobs and passenger service, every session is built to run like the prototype.
There are a lot of lonely people in our society today. You are welcome to call have and a chat and a look round. We have lots of projects on the go.
Cardigan Junction is more than just a model railroad—it’s a team project. We’re bringing the railroad to life in miniature, and we invite fellow enthusiasts to join us. Whether you’re interested in operations, scenery building, simply love the modelling, or just feel like a chat and a mug of tea, you are welcome here.
Open for visitors 3:00 to 5:00 every Thursday or Saturday

A lot of work is being carried out on the RFID project by Andy and Alex. With 28 readers around the layout tracking the movement of cars.
This info is transfer by a fixed Wi-Fi hub to a computer and is picked up on mobile phones and tablets. Enabling you to not only drive the train using your mobile phone but to also see the pick ups and deliveries.
Quick layout tour March 2026. A lot to do, we are practicing for opps sessions. Delay on full session as we need additional personel due to the extension.

Above. New extension under way since June 2025
This will extend the layout to 60ft and add anothe 100ft to the mainline.
Below We are building a new iron ore mine original did not have the capacity to fill a complete train. It is all ready to wire up. It will have a sound chip connected. Yet to see if it all works.
The Dispatchers panel is ongoing project, although it is up and running tracking trains around the layout, with point control to the passing loops along the main line. There are a couple of cameras to keep an eye on the staging yards. Adrian and Anthony have installed 1800 yds of wire. Now working on connecting 32 signal repeaters. Looking forward to be back running opps sessions in the new year
